My name is Cherie Valaray, I am a dance mom. My daughter has been dancing for many years now, starting in Mommy and Me classes, then becoming a competitor dancer with our local dance company. Year after year we have more and more costumes ending up in boxes after the season. Many costumes were worn only once or twice and I felt sad that they are sitting in a box, in perfect condition. I grew up in communist Hungary, we did not have a lot of money. As an artist myself, I am aware how a costume could transform your performance. After speaking with other dance moms, I realized that this was a common problem. Yes of course we all have our sentimental moments, and could keep them for memory purposes, but the real memory is when the dancer was wearing that costume. We have the photos and videos about the performance. So I thought, “Why not donate them to other underprivileged kids, so they can have the joy too?” Hopefully you agree with this!
